Why is building with prefabricated sections better than erecting with components on site?

Speed: Typically, for a 3,000 square foot home, it takes two days on site to set the prefabricated panels and prepare for the pouring of concrete. Compare that to four or five days of erecting walls on site.

Weather: Rain and wind become less of an obstacle for workers on site. The wall sections are very sturdy and are held in place by the crane truck until the scaffolding braces (which are also wind braces and wall straightening devices) are attached. This can be done in windy conditions that would typically hamper the progress of built-in-place ICF projects.

Accuracy: The accuracy of pre-assembled sections are within ¼” (6 mm) for any dimension. It is much easier to build accurate concrete walls in ideal working conditions. Manufacturing facilities with jigs, fixtures, and proper tools greatly increase productivity, accuracy, and ease of construction.

Waste: There is much less waste when building in a controlled environment. Material that would typically be considered waste can be reused. Material waste is less than .25% when building in the factory as compared to as much as 5% waste when building on site.

Cost: In addition to the aforementioned cost saving benefits, manufacturing labor and insurance is less costly than on site construction labor.
